Dr. Seuss

A.K.A. Dr. Seuss Was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1904. He graduated from Dartmouth College and attended Oxford University. He received honorary doctorates from Princeton, J.F. Kennedy University, Dartmouth, and Brown University.

 

Geisel was a Lt. Colonel in the Army in World War II. After the war, he and his first wife, Helen moved from Los Angeles to La Jolla. There they built a house on 6 ½ acres next to an observation tower that eventually became part of his living room wall. Within a year of Helen’s death in 1967, Geisel married Audrey Stone Dimond, a nurse 20 years his junior, the two remained together until his death. By the time he died in 1991, he wrote and illustrated nearly 50 books
